Do you have a performance coming up which you'd like to tell people about? With HarmonySite, you can make a custom URL for it, such as: www.mychorus.org/spring-concert. This is easy to share online or send to someone – much better than the normal URL which might be: www.mychorus.org/dbpage.php?pg=view&dbase=events&id=14524!

Or, maybe you want a link for people to get your contact details, and you need something short and memorable? www.mychorus.org/contact would be much better than the usual URL: www.mychorus.org/dbpage.php?page=contact.

This is possible with HarmonySite – you can have a custom URL for anything you could want. I'll show you a couple of examples below, plus a few more useful pieces of information…

Example #1: Making a custom URL for an event

Let's take the first example, a performance. Say you've created the event in HarmonySite and now you want to give it a custom URL. The first step is to click on the "Update" link:

Next, you need to click on the "Public" tab:

Scroll down until you find the "Custom URL" box, then type in the URL you want here:

Finally, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save".

Now, you can easily get to this event using a short, memorable URL.

Example #2: Making a custom URL for a website page

It's also straightforward to add custom URLs for ordinary pages on your site. This works for any page where you edit it by clicking the yellow "edit" button in the bottom-right corner. (To name some examples, this works for the Contact, About, Officers, News, and Event Calendar pages.)

The first step here is clicking the yellow "edit" button:

Now, scroll down until you find the "Custom URL" box. Just like before, type in the URL you want here:

Lastly, scroll down to the bottom and click "Save".

More information

  • When you make a custom URL, the normal URL will still work just like before. It's perfectly fine for a webpage to have two URLs – like a person who has a nickname and an official name!
  • Productions can also have custom URLs. The instructions for these are the same as events: click the "Update" link, then the "Public" tab.
  • You can see an overview of all your website pages, together with their URLs and custom URLs, on the Custom URLs page. To find this, click on the Admin link to go your Admin dashboard, then click on the Custom URLs link (in the "Website Content" section):Then, you'll see the Custom URLs page, which looks like this:
  • The Custom URLs page can do some more things as well. For example, you can make a custom URL for anything on your site. For more details, see our main help guide on custom URLs.
